Open Call for Nominations: TPOS Governance Groups Seek New Membership
The Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS) governance is an international collaboration of scientists, engineers, and policymakers that aim to maintain and improve the observing system design, implementation and sustainability. To ensure our leadership remains innovative and representative, we are opening a call for nominations to refresh and diversify our governance groups. We are seeking passionate and skilled individuals to contribute to the strategic direction of TPOS. Please refer to the Executive Summaries of the TPOS 2020 reports to understand the scope and direction of the governance groups.
About the Governance Groups
We are seeking nominations for the following three groups:
Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC): This group provides high-level scientific and technical guidance. Members are responsible for evaluating the observing system’s performance, identifying emerging scientific needs, and advising on strategic improvements. We are looking for experts in physical oceanography (e.g., Western Pacific boundary regions), ocean biogeochemistry, ocean remote sensing, meteorology and air-sea interactions, modeling, data assimilation and observing system experiments (OSE/OSSEs).
Implementation Coordination Group (ICG): The ICG is responsible for guiding the practical coordination of TPOS observing activities. Members evaluate and compare current and future ocean observing platforms for compatibility, feasibility and integration into the sustained observing network, in coordination with the SAC to meet the requirements and goals of TPOS. We need individuals with expertise in ocean observation technological integration (sustained and experimental), international and EEZ logistics, and sustained observing platforms.
TPOS Resources and Engagement (TREF) [Formerly referred to as the Stakeholders Group]: This team focuses on securing the resources needed to sustain and enhance TPOS and on engaging with stakeholders. Members work on strategies for resource mobilization, partnership development, and communication. We seek professionals with skills in resource mobilization, intergovernmental relationships, and stakeholder engagement.
Eligibility and Commitment
We welcome nominations from individuals with expertise in the fields mentioned above.
We are committed to building well-rounded and inclusive leadership and we hope to receive nominations from individuals from a range of disciplines, geographies, genders, and career stages.
In addition to the desired expertise described above, we encourage applications from candidates in tropical Pacific stakeholder nations that do not currently have representation within TPOS.
